Third party warranty-confused

Man, what a nightmare. All of the companies I have checked on have bad reviews on Ripoff.com, etc. Even Fidelity Warranty Services that is recommended by my MB dealer.

So- who would you recommend I call based on good results and lack of hassle. 2004 SL500.

Re: Warranty

I feel for ya...., it was not at all easy getting suitable coverage for mine last year. To make my adventures more challenging, Fidelity ceased covering the V12 in North Carolina, wouldn't even talk to me after I gave them my vin. Apparently they do cover the V8.

If I were you, I'd go with who your dealer recommends. I'd also see if the dealer will sell you the Fidelity policy for less than you were quoted, they just might, and be sure it is the "good" Fidelity. Alternately, try EasyCare, they are expensive, but you get what you pay for. I'd also send forum sponsor RPM a PM to see what they can do for you.

IMO, don't give up, buy a warranty for as long as you plan to own the car.

Good luck and keep up posted.

Honestly, going to a site like Ripoff.com is basically only going to get you the bad news. People aren't going to a site like that to say how wonderful their warranty is. In fact, like some industries say "no news is good news". The quietest people are those who are satisfied.

I would actually go with what your local MB dealer recommends. They will know the reps and generally what type of work they will cover and how far they will go to make sure everyone is happy. My dealer recommended the EasyCare warranty which was already presented to me by my salesman. So it was an easy enough decision to go with them at the time of purchase. My local MB dealer tech managers know the EasyCare rep and can see to it that he approves all reasonable work. It's really great for the driver and the dealership.

I do know that getting an aftermarket warranty after a purchase as an individual is much more difficult. It is best to tack it on when purchasing the car from the lot.

My two cents is to simply go with the MB extended service warranty, assuming you're still eligible. It may be slightly more money, but based on my positive experiences to date, the hassle factor is eliminated.

I was out of warranty by three years when I bought the car. A guy selling Mercury warranty has been calling me. wants $4,300 for 4 years or 48,000 miles.

I offer warranties from resource automotive called the mechanic, it saved me some big bills on my SL, and the coverage is reasonable
