Cabin Air Filter Replacement?
Is there a typical time or mileage point for replacing the cabin air filter on a 2006 SL500?
In preparation for some DIY maintenance items, I consulted my dealer parts dept for the part # for the cabin air filter. The parts tech said the cabin air filter on the 06 SL500 is a self-contained charcoal-based filter that never needs to be replaced. Is this correct?
He politely gave me the part numbers and prices for all the other items on my list.

depends on where you live and drive and the frequency. I replace mine every 15k miles and they are pretty discolored by that point. I have a friend who pulled his at 82k miles and they were full of dirt and debris. Make sure the replacements you get have the felt that goes all the way around the filters' edge otherwise they will not seal properly and you will get alot of blow bye.

I make it a point to change mine every year or 10K miles. These filter are cheap, typically $30, why not. When I changed my air filters on my E63, it had leaves, sand and tiny rocks, twigs, bugs you name it stuck up in there. And that is after one year. Just imagine at 82K what that filter looked like, it probably had mice nesting up in there....LOL

In my original post I failed to include the parts tech's other statement: that cabin air filters are a serviceable/replaceable item in all models, except the 06 SL500. So again, is this correct?
