R230 remote trunk switch malfunction

When I use this switch inside the car, it pops open the trunk and then immediately the close assist actuates before I can get out of the car....

I can manually open the trunk and the close assist works to then help close/lock the trunk.

Any opinions as to what may be wrong....

I have pulled Fuse 71 for this switch and reinserted.....short in the switch or trunk latch mechanism?

When you can get the trunk to open, does it stay open or fall down ?

It sounds to me that you need new struts.

Thanks for that great input........in the winter when it was cold the struts didn't work very well and the trunk closed at times without me closing it, but when it got to summer and the heat they worked much better, almost 100%, so I think that is it also.....they must worn.....

They wear out quick. I've had a set installed each year under warranty on my 05 SL.

Your 1st post describes exactly the trunk closure problem I've had on my 06 SL for several years. Three years ago, the local dealer worked on it under warranty for a full day, making adjustments here and there...it worked OK for about 2 weeks.
I'll have to take a close look at the struts - glad to hear it's now working fine for you.l
