How do I switch on the Traffic menu?

The user guide for the COMAND system on my 2009 SL 550 describes a Traffic Menu positioned between the Guide Menu and the Position Menu on the Navi screen. The manual says it allows me to display Real Time Traffic information on my NAVI display and to do dynamic routing. But for some reason, the menu doesn't show up on my system.

Does anyone know how to switch on the Traffic Menu in a US-model 2009 SL 550? Or can someone point me to specialist in the Los Angeles area who can modify the 2009 COMAND so that I can see Real Time Traffic data on my NAVI screen?

BTW I've learned from the forum that the solution isn't anything to do with subscribing to the SiriusXM traffic service. The 2009 COMAND doesn't have the Sirius Real Time traffic module installed (there is no second ESN). But apparently the Traffic Menu appears in the manual because the 2009 COMAND is able to receive data from the free RDS/TMC streams sent out by local FM stations. Several owners have reported that this works. I've got good TMC coverage in my area so I'd like to try it. First though, I need to get the Traffic menu to show up :-)

Thanks in advance for any advice or pointers.

Version info for below for those that understand these things. The last Firmware (Telematics) update was dated Feb 2010: Navi IPL 0.020.412, Navi Dboot 1.410.222, Navi APP 0.9F.42.
