Oil Consumption...
Guys
The book says expect to use 1 litre of oil every 600 miles. I've done 1,750 miles and the oil level still reads OK. Reassuring?
Thought I'd physically check the oil but seems like you can't pull a dipstick. Or can you? Any body had to top up the oil?
The car came with a litre in the boot, but its not Mobil - any reason not to use what they supplied?

new v8 models do not have dipstick. you must check oil thru cluster. i changed oil and filter and refilled to manuals recommendations. no way to check but electronically.

No Mercedes I've ever owned has ever used any oil. Ever. So it's not a concern and you should certain not add a couple of pints of amber nectar just to be safe. The engines can be damaged by over-filling.

Thats reassuring BlueSL. Surprised to find the oil usage mentioned in the manual, and a free litre in the boot...
I was about to give it a pint of Fosters as a precautionary measure!

Mobil 1 0w-40 has poor consumption performance. The 5w-40 SUV is better and so is German Castrol Syntec 0w-30. Meets MB specs, available at AutoZone.
