just wanted to get some thoughts, i think the roll bar looks pretty cool when it is raised, i always put it up when i have the top down...how about you guys?? thoughts, reasons?

I keep the windscreen on mine so the rollbar stays down, the wife pulls the screen up sometimes, but not often. It's popped up once on me, hit a good sized bump bout half way thru a hard turn.

Not sure what you mean by this, but there is an American Flag on the license plate of the SL also, along with the initials HDV (Honorably Discharged Veteran), so I'm pretty sure I've earned the right to fly that flag where I want to without owning a GM product.

I always run with the windscreen up, rollbar down. Yes it will pop up in an emergency, and it also causes the windscreen density to double when up which reduces rear visibility more than I like.

Mine did also pop up on it's own once or twice when I was dilly-dallying with some borrowed DR's one afternoon over the Summer....a little scary, but the traction off the line was incredible. I removed them after 5 or so launches in the interest of drivetrain longjevity. Rollbar has not popped up solo since.

Roll bar is always down. Having it up makes it looks like those old rabbit convertibles which then reminds me of an Easter basket. To each his/her own, but I only raised it when I wanted to make sure it worked at the delaer.

Now, if I could trick some of my friends to do some street surfing on their old skate boards, I could be happy to raise the roll bar for this purpose. :^)

How do you manually raise the roll bar? Where is the button? Just purchased a 500Sl and haven't gone through the manuals.

It looks like the roll bar up/down is a divided issue.

Mine is always up!

The control for the roll bar is just south of the ABC controls. You have to lift the lid and the controls are right there.

Roll Bar down, Windscreen on. Only put up Windscreen when wife is along. See it both ways here in Mid-West.

roll bar down, wind in hair! rarely use the windscreen! the aerodynamics of this baby is incredible with the top down, very minimal hair disturbance when compared to other convertibles.
