Hualingan Headunit Replacement
Has anyone installed one of these?

We're trading in our SLK350 for a 04 SL600 and the nav is a step backwards. I want to rip out the nav as soon as we get it. I also can't figure out how to go about buying one.
There is a competitor called Dyanvin, that apparently is very popular with the BMW E46. I contacted them and there is no Dynavin for the R230, but there are for other MB models. http://www.dynavin.com/products.php
I'm wondering if the one for the C/CLK would fit with a little extra trim.

I assume we would need to get a new external amplifier, but could connect to the existing bose speakers from there.

I would be interested in knowing the response to this also as I have the same model and hate the the nav system. Nobody that I know makes an install kit to put a double din system in unless you fab up your own.

Do a search for our name and Haulingan... Tested a few of them. Sorry on my iPhone and no link... Short story, save your money.
However, it will be difficult, but not impossible to use the Bose speakers, as they are 1.5 ohm

I hate to say, that the SL is quite difficult to do head unit replacement - which I will also admit we are not fans of getting rid of COMAND in favor of aftermarket. We DO advocate getting rid of Audio20/50 for a COMAND PRO, but all USA SL's have COMAND (not true in the rest of the world). The COMAND can be updated and keep all the tight integration with the car, not have service or warranty issues (where applicable). Some people don't like the NAV, but I don't mind it at all with updated maps. That being said, I do sometimes use MotionX on the COMAND NAV screen instead of factory NAV sometimes when it is more convenient (like I have been SMS an address, etc). ALL is possible on the factory head unit, and you don't disrupt the over car's systems and all that comes with an aftermarket.
