72 month Report Card

Here is the latest installment of my ownership report cards.

0-12 months
1. Glovebox wouldn't open
2. A waterleak into the trunk

12-18 months
3. My CD changer stopped working
4. Climate Control System not working properly (replaced COMAND unit)
5. 9 and # buttons on the COMAND were not illuminated

18-24 months
6. Transmission malfunctioned, unable to drive car. Diagnosis by MB - valve body failed. They ended up rebuilding the entire rear end of the transmission system.
7. Oil leak.

24-36 months
No problems to report. Car is working flawlessly and has for the past year.

36-48 months
8. Passenger door sill trim became loose.
9. Bottom of driver side headrest beginning to fall out.
10. Trunk would not open from switch on door, key fob or manually lifting at trunk.
11. Convertible top motor would not stop running when top had completely opened or closed.
12. Transmission oil cooler line leak.
13. Purge Control Valve (Pollution Control item) had a leak. Caused Check Engine light to illuminate.

48-60 months
14. Passenger door keyless go lock function doesn't work. Unlock still works.

60-72 months (70,000 miles @ 72 months)
15. Transmission problems. Replaced transmission.
16. Drivers side door keyless go lock function doesn't work.
17. Passenger side door sill came loose.
18. Keyless go start button stopped working - crank sensor replaced.
19. ABC malfunction light illuminated. ABC pump replacement.
20. Discovered by MB mechanic. Replaced transmission mount.
21. Discovered by MB mechanic. Replaced lower control arm bushings (left & right).
22. Discovered by MB mechanic. Replaced front engine mounts.

Used my Chrysler 5 year, 70,000 mi. extended warranty for items 14-22 and they paid in full except for my $100 deductible. Can't say enough good things about this warranty.

Some items in the 48-72 month range can be chalked up to normal wear and tear. The transmission problem is not one of these. Having to replace the entire transmission at approximately 65,000 miles was a huge surprise. Thank God I had the extended warranty or I would have been out about $7000.
