SL/R230: SL on European Delivery? Anyone done it?

There was a window last spring (02) in which dealers were allowed to place European delivery orders for the SL. I don't know whether it will be reopened this year or not, but if it was like last year it was only offered to select dealers and was not a matter of public posting on MBUSA's website. The cars have to be brought down from Bremmen to the Sindelfingen delivery center. On the day in August when we picked up an SL500 from the European Delivery Center at least one other person had picked up an SL on European delivery earlier in the day. Ours was the only SL visible at the time we picked it up since the European customers apparently get their SL's at the factory in Bremmen.
