Transmission torque limiter?

I took the SL600 out today to show my brother-in-law how hard it pulls from a dead stop. It has a stage 2 Renntech package that is rated at 645 hp and 775 torque. I have 305s on the back so it hooks pretty good. Anyway, about 1/2 way through first gear, with the traction control off, the tires were spinning and it was pulling real well. All of a sudden it kicked out of gear! No forward pull at all. The shifter still read that it was in D. I pulled over, shut the car of and restarted it and everything was fine. Was this a function of the torque limiter or signs of something else more serious. I did a couple more romps (not from a dead start) on the way home and everything seemed fine. Any ideas of what was going on?

Here is an update. I borrowed my Snap On Solus from work today and got a code P2501 from the transmission ECU. The code means "engine has excessive speed" So this would cause it to kick into neutral? Or now that I think about it, maybe the over rev code set when it went into neutral and had nothing to do with it kicking out of gear.

Does that particular code mean your trans is slipping?

I don't think so. It still seems to be shifting fine. And trust me, it didn't slip at all, it just banged into neutral.

Yep - torque limiter. My SL65 with a tune has done it before as well.

How to you keep it from kicking in? It's a bummer to have all that power and not be able to put it to the ground. I could see it if I had slicks on it, but not street tires on the street.

TCU tune.

Eurocharged, Speedriven, and Kleemann are going to be your sources for that.

I think Eurocharged might be running a sale right now....

I already have a Renntech engine ECU and a transmission TCU in it. So Renntech doesn't raise the torque limits? If I send the ECU to one of the above suppliers they will raise it on my ECU? TIA!

I sent the ECU and TCU to Jerry @ Eurocharged and he said he would fix me up! Thanks for all the replies.
