Mileage Concerns

I have been using my SL550 to everywhere lately since I enjoy driving it. So I have been putting around 1500 miles a month on it but I am also worried about the long-term effects of it on the car, especially the transmission.

Any suggestions on the long-term owners about how I should service the transmission? At what mileage should I get the tranny oil change and/or get it flushed? Any other concers/suggestions about other parts - other than the tyres/brakes

The electronics and suspension and everything elese will probably crap outbefore the drive train. I would not worry about the mileage you are putting on the car. Not using these cars seems to be worse than mild usage. Now if you told me that 1500 was in hours of stop and go every day then maybe you should just decrease the service interval.

My 05 SL55 engine and tranny are fine at 91,000 miles. Everything else, however, is a ticking time bomb. :^)

1200 miles of 1600 miles is highway (Pittsburgh to Philly specifically) and the rest is urban driving. So it is mostly highway mileage.

If/when did you get your tranny oil changed?

Keeping SL550 going

I have a 2009 SL550 that just hit 38K miles and, per computer, was due for "B" service. The rule for that vintage is change transmission fluid + filter, seals, etc. at 40K miles. And that's what I just did. From talking to mechanics I trust with no financial interest they consistently advise changing the fluid at that mileage in the SL, i.e., every 40K miles. It isn't cheap, but then nothing in these cars is. Comes with the territory.
