Vent tube by consumer battery

I was about to replace my consumer battery and I noticed a 8in clear vent tube that one end is connected to the floor and the other end does not connect to anything.

So does this vent tube connect to anything?

SL 55 and a GT 3000 vr4 Here's my car: http://home.online.no/~ludvs/index.cfm
It's for ventilation of the battery.

When you replace it, be sure to get the same one (AGM).

I got the battery today from the dealer and a new plastic connector for the tube. I connect the tube to the battery and its too short to connect to the hole in the trunk.

Does anyone have pictures on the tube setup?
