Advice on Chrome Wheels
Hi I am new to the forum and new to Benz. I have owned BMW M3's for many years and decided to switch to MB SL500. I have a 2004 SL500 with 17K miles.
Are there any OEM chrome sets of wheels for a budget of $12-1,500.00?
I am getting new Michelin 18'' super sport tires.
Thanks for any recommendations. I am not to fond of replicas ,unless they are solid and well constructed.

I think you can find some chrome wheels in that price range. Believe it or not, there is generally less demand for chrome, so the prices can sometimes be lower than painted. If you look for some used ones, you might even find them with some decent tires in that price range, so I wouldn't buy any tires until after you get the wheels. And regarding the reps, there are some decent ones out there, along with lower quality too.

Thanks, after thinking it over, I decided if I choose rims I might go with silver, possibly 19" Vossen. I have had good luck with Michelins on my M3. I am trying to figure out with the manual , all of the options "bells and whistles".

2006 SL500 Sport
I had chrome AMG thin spokes on my CLK 430 and could never keep air in the tires due to the corrosion that prevented a good seal. My dealer cleaned them up and applied a rubber sealent that worked for a while, but I eventually had to replace the wheels. My SL 500 has the painted AMG Sport wheels and they seem to be holding up well.

Thanks for the good advise. I replaced the tires that the original owner had. The ride is amazing I got 18'' Michelin Pilot Super Sport Front 255/40ZR18.
Rear 285/35ZR18. Tire Rack did not carry them in 19''s .
For now I will stay with these, but still looking around. I am used to rims from my previous BMW M3.

Welcome to the Forum.
According to my MBZ factory wheel catalog your offsets are ET 35 front and ET40 rear.
I would stick with the stock wheels and avoid chromed wheels as the OP states. There are a myriad of reasons why chromed alloy wheels are .
Consider having your stock wheels examined by a good wheel repair shop, given a high polish/sheen, and then clear coated to seal them. This may give you the effect you want.
