My wife decided to put the front license plate holder (we never installed a plate on the front) on the top of the protective cover in the trunk. I went to put the top down and I heard a crack. The left side trim piece (I think it's plastic) cracked and the bottom 6 inches broke off. The top still works and I could glue the piece back on.

The car is currently at the dealer and he wants $380 to replace the trim piece and the piece just below it. He says that Mercedes has a new part and they recommend replacing both sides for a total of $760?

Any thoughts for what to do?

Good reply. Unfortunately that would be far more expensive.
