Why Soft Close Trunk Lid?
Looks like the soft close function for my trunk lid is no longer working.
I can close the trunk lid and hear a single click as it mechanically latches; and it locks and opens OK. As I ponder the repair options, some questions come to mind about soft close:
1. For every other car I've owned I simply close the trunk lid with moderate force and it latches and locks - and there's never any problem. So, what is the intended purpose and benefit of soft close?
2. If soft close is not working correctly (say due to a pneumatic leak somewhere), does this affect the operation of the retractable roof system?
3. Any noteworthy negatives if I opt not to repair the soft close feature?
4. If I pull the soft close fuse, will the warning light still come on?
5. Without soft close, does the trunk lid latch sufficiently to keep water out of the trunk?
Thanks

1. I've found it to be a pretty standard feature in most luxury cars.
2. Yes. The hardtop will not operate unless the trunk is fully closed.
3. Yes. Would you drive around with your door or hood half closed ?
4. Yes, because the trunk is still not closed completely.
5. No.
