I recently purchased a replacement starter battery (OEM) and now I get Battery symbol/visit workshop in red. Can someone advise me what to do here. MB Dealer wants me to come in and reset the codes at$300.00 minimum plus. Replaced it with the exact same OEM Battery. I'm driving the 2003 SL 500

Once you fix the problem it will reset by itself, no special computer needed for that.
Why did you replace the starter battery? No warnings before you replaced the starter battery?
Did you check your main battery?

Thanks for the quick response. I PM you with the long winded version. I replaced the original starter battery cause the car every once in awhile would not crank over. It would half crank and fire up. This time it would only half crank and stop until I jump started the car. Has the battery tested and it needed replacement over 5 years old. Don't use car in Winter 03 with 71K. Still have 1 malfunction thats the red battery visit workshop indicator.

Car cranks fine now with the new battery. I did not disconnect the rear battery when I changed out the starter battery. However, this morning the car started right up and the malfunction is gone along with the red battery indicator. It must have reset. Thank you all so much for your responses saved me a trip to the dealer.

Not advised, you are supposed to disco main batt first, if you want to disco starter batt. Just a note to others for the future.Originally Posted by LVDSB

I have just had this problem
The light does not reset itself - the one in the information panel (as opposed to a cars standard battery light) means the car has at some time decided it is unhappy with the battery in the boot.
Even if you recharge a flat battery or replace the battery if it is faulty - the message wont go
I took it to an electronics indi with star and they reset the warning with STAR for £25
The code doesnt just go - so to be honest its a bit of a mystry to me why yours just went?

can't explain why but after giving the battery a charge the next morning the battery indicator was off and has been working normal with no malfunctions. I now have to recharge the air conditioner as that light is now blinking on and off. Low refrigerant.
