Oil residue on Coil Packs?
Hi everyone. I'm new to the boards, as well as the SL500. I recently picked up my 04 and am loving it so far.
I did have a question - I noticed what appears to be oil residue on top of several of the coil packs. On some of them, it has dripped off the packs down onto the exhaust manifold, although I do not smell oil burning. I know these cars are not coil-over plugs, so I wasn't sure where the seepage could be coming from. Perhaps the valve cover gaskets, but how could the oil travel up the cover to the packs?
I did a search and couldn't find anything specific to this, so I welcome your thoughts and experiences.
Thx.

Well, I just found a pic of a new coil pack, and it appears there is a gasket on the underside, which would indicate an opening on the valve cover to the packs? If so, I wonder if I can just get the coil pack gaskets to replace the leaky culprits.

OK, took a closer look last night. Appears to be residual oil leaking down onto the coil packs from faulty valve cover gaskets. Will replace those and see what happens.

wow I've had this car for 8-years! Ha. Yep- the valve covers worked. I do recall having to use silicon for the small what seem to be inspection covers. Least back then my gasket kit did not come with those. Let me know if you have any questions.
