SEATBELT CONNECTORS

SRS light was on in Red, also message to see service right away. Took car to dealership. Just got a call that both seats need to come out, and the seatbelt connectors need to be replaced for a total cost labor and parts $731.00.
Car is a 2004 500SL with 87,000 miles. Is it common that both go at the same time?
Any input and help would be appreciated.

Similar Problem on BMWs

I've had similar problems on several BMWs which I eliminated by spraying WD40 into the connectors every 6 months or so. Yours may be a different problem, but thanks for reminding me to spray the connectors in my current MB rides.

Interesting idea about the WD40. Can we get to the seat connectors on the SL without pulling the seats? Like from under the back with the seat moved all the way up?

Oops -- let me clarify. I am speaking about the actual seat belt receptacle into which one inserts the seat belt loop, not the electrical connector -- the one with the red button that one pushes to release the belt. As I suggested, this may not be the cause of the problem you experienced, but it is possible.

Thanks for your input, but WD-40 wouldn't work with this. They had to replace the actual connectors under the seats. Code showing was for seatbelt connectors, and they do all of them at once. So 731.00, no more red SRS
