COMAND Unit
My COMAND unit has gone dead and the dealer is recommending a full head replacement for 5700 dollars. Imagine that. What have other folks done and what options do i have. I dont have all the trust in the world with these guys.

Wow, just this week I have gone through almost a grand fixing my top that went dead and a bad accumulator that made the car sound like a diesel at low speeds. Oh yeah, both of these items NOT covered by my extended warranty that I just paid $4000 for ... I can feel for you, man.

I had to replace the Comand unit in my S65 earlier this year. The dealer offered three choices. First a new Unit from MB at around the price you quoted. Second a MB certified rebuilt unit, full warranty for about $4,300. Third a locally rebuilt unit from a rebuilder in Costa Mesa with a 90 day warranty for about $3,300. All prices were installed by the dealer. I chose the middle option, no problems after 6 months. It is still really expensive.

There are plenty on eBay here is one for $485 and free shipping !! And remember eBay has eBay buyer protection. If for what ever reason items is not like describe in auction you can open a claim on eBay and get your 100% Money back including shipping if you paid it. I purchased many items on eBay for my SL500 with no problems and I have saved a ton of money doing it. Good luck !!

Hey, just in case you haven't heard, i am working with a company to replace the COMAND and keep everything else in the vehicle intact. though the factory nav, sat radio, or voice control, won't work anymore this unit allows you to add an aftermarket unit to it. Which i did due to the $4k price for an antique radio. So far pretty solid unit. I am looking for other applications to use it in such as sedans, but there is no fade control so it might be a deal breaker.
