top closes, trunk will not
Just bought a 2005 SL600.
First time top goes down & up fine.
2 hours later top will go up but trunk will not close.
Top will go back down & trunk will latch ok.
I am stuck with the top down.
What to do?
Thanks

Check the two flaps on the trunk. With the top up, flaps are suppose to lie flat against the trunk lid.
Other issue might be the hydraulic pump. Mine went out with the top down and the trunk lid left in the vertical position.
Good luck with it. Hope you have a warranty.

My guess is you have a leaking valve cylinder in the lock mechanism. There are several of such cylinders involved in the roof operation. It may also be one of the switches. Some members on the forum have traced theirs to the trunk flap switch. Then again, it may be low level hydraulic fluid in the hydraulic pump (Which means the fluid is leaking somewhere. It doesn't just evaporate).
Basically there is no one answer, but a search of the forum would definitely provide some clues to other members' experiences. In any case, this diagnosis article could help locate the exact problem and provide a general overview of how the system works:

Here is what worked for me...
Words are from another poster at the time:Repair kit is P/N: 230-750-01-11 List price $62.48 Install took me ~45 minutes to do both sides, but it included a beer/smoke break between the two sides.
Edit: Kit includes parts for both sides if you were wondering.
