22" rims on 2003 SL500 a good idea?
Hey Everyone,
This is my first time here as i just recently purchased my first benz sl500
! I want to buy some new wheels for this car and was wondering:
Is 22" rims front and back a good idea? will it damage the car (suspension)?
I want to put a staggered setup.
What wheel size(s) are recommended?
What Wheel Brand should I go with?
Thank You.

SL 55 and a GT 3000 vr4 Here's my car: http://home.online.no/~ludvs/index.cfm
Tires on the sl
I would not go any bigger than 20, to prevent rubbing.
That will make the car look good!
Just take a look at these pics:

The car is lowered so it's not the original setup.
It shouldn't be so difficult to find some nice rims for your car, so good luck with your search and your new car!
It'll bring a smile on your face when your cruisin and listening on some nice music. Happy driving!

Wow your car looks awesome! i wanted to get that full wheel well look without having to actually lower the car. I'll take your advice and stick with 20" wheels. Thanks for the advice!

I don't think a 22" tire exists that would keep you anywhere near the proper OEM diameter. Pretty sure on this vehicle that would be around 26.1" or anything within about 3% of that being OK. I run 20" as well and thats about as much risk as I'm willing to take. You might find 21s to fit, but you'll have next to no sidewall and will pay for it many times over.

PS...I should mention that I have a set of sweet Vossen wheels that just might do the trick for you. Rubber is still very good as well. PM me if interested. I am converting my SL to a widebody and think I had the wheels dialed in perfectly, but will ultimatly be replacing them to get the right stance on the flaired fenders. I'd give you one hell of a deal and can send you some pics if interested.
