To Designo or not to Designo: That is the question!

Been on the wait list for a long, long time . . with $2,000 down. Offered the Designo today, at MSRP, which is about 98,000, including gas guzz tax. My first choice is Brilliant Silver, without sport, with the comfort seats, keyless, wood pkg.. The Designo offers the Napa leather, the Alcantra roof and pillars, and sun shades; the comfort seats, the 18" wheels and special alloys. Wondering about the value down the road of the "Launch edition?" Saw the car today . . sat in it. Oh my! The outside color: Silver, with a hint of green mist thrown in. Can't decide on it. Anyone have any ideas? If I do not take this one . . my special order SL will arrive in May. Perhaps my 2002 CLK320 cab will be worth less then. As of now, I can get full MSRP for it, plus some of the tax and plates. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Pete

Take the LE now!

Take the Launch Edition. Later on to get the same amount of
packages will cost more. And it is always nice to be the first one on the block to own the SL 500, by the time your ordered model arrives, the frenzy would have died. MRSP might also increase later on. The worst scenario, if you don't like the LE, sell it on ebay, some sucker will always pay $20,000 over MRSP, don't ask me why.

I've been on the wait list since last February for a SL500 sport, and am expecting delivery in July. I also have an order in for an SL55, delivery TBD, but probably Summer 2003.

I can only offer you my opinion, but if I had the chance to buy a LE at MSRP today, I'd probably go for it, even though it doesn't have the sport option that I wanted.

My current car will do nothing but depreciate between now and the summer, whereas the 2003 SL probably won't. You're probably better off, as I have an "old" 98 SL500. Your CLK Cab should hold up a lot better than my car on the resale market. You'll be able to dump it way before it gets hit in the downdraft from the new 209 CLK.

My only reservation is the nearly $10K premium for the LE. I don't know how much better it looks than the "base" model. Seems like a pretty premium price for what you're getting.

Worst case scenario, May is only 60 days away....

SL Launch @ window?

Peter,

Why did you even take the time to type the post? That car is well worth its weight in gold & to get it at MSRP is like winning the lottery! Please, turn off the computer and get your hind parts back to that dealer before they chance their minds.

Good Luck
