Daytime: Slow and easy with 2006 SL500 & 2003 S430 . Night time: Hard and Fast with my wife
why is it so hard to find this Starter battery from non MB sources? I would think as long as the battery physical size fits, the cold cranking Amp power (CCA) is the same, then that would be enough... if not, is there anything else we need to look for ?

Same here -
I even had an AutoZone guy tell me come on over we'll fit u up. And NOPE. I got mine from MB and worked great. Bummer cuz it is rare size. $150
I put it in myself.
Now for the AGM battery in the back (electronics) I got the autozones best. and they guy put it in for me, used his memory manager and nothing was lost, no re-normalizing needed. $150
