SL/R230: Fuse 71 constantly blowing (PSE pump)

Fuse 71 constantly blowing (PSE pump)
One morning the central locks stopped working.
Checked all fuses, 71 is blown. Replaced it and it fries almost right away.
Anything I can do other than check the pump connector and dry the area? Is there anything I can do with the existing PSE pump, any checks I can run if I pull it out of the car?
Want to try and do everything short of replacing the damned pump...
