SL/R230: That Mullholland Trip this morning . . .
#1
That Mullholland Trip this morning . . .
Took the SL up Benedict Canyon to Mullholland and did a five mile run with it. For those of you unfamiliar with the topography here in So. Ca., Mullholland Drive is the ridge of a mountain - on on the North is the San Fernando Valley majestic views; To the South: Hollywood; Beverly Hills; Bel-air - including the Bel-air reservoir. Quite a site. I believe the road to be the most challenging drive in all of So. Ca., certainly Los Angeles. I left one thing out in my earlier post and it's perhaps the first thing one notices when going for a drive in this new car: THE SL ROARS TO LIFE each time it starts. You know it has heft, guts, weight . . . and power - in that instant.
Equal balance now: It's beauty and its drive qualities. It seems to boost itself up on turns - and its cornering abilities are uncanny, especially in sport mode. You brake . . . . and it brakes aggressively, then comes to what they refer to as "Soft Stop." I put the top down by remote key. Fast and furious action . . like a well choreographed ballet of sorts. Multiple actions happening at once and in 16 seconds - it's gone! Very different than the SLK in that sense. Hats off! Pete
