New Owner and the first Problems :(
hello,
i just got a 2005 sl 500 and was thinking, the best way is to bring it to the mb dealer and check it out.
one day later my wife took the first drive in the car and after 15mls the computer was saying Battery/Alternator - Stop vehicle ! and the command was showing: battery voltage low.
that one day (and maybe 30 mls) after i got everything checked out.
I have to bring it back to the dealer. Can i drive it
or do i have to tow it ? It Starts and Drives fine.

The car just quit driving. Now I'm waiting for the tow truck . 5 min I was coming from the mb dealer. They told me it cost 1900 to fix the alternator ...they have no idea what there are doing there. I told them maybe the regulator is bad and he told me there is no regulator .......

Yes, if your alternator isn't working, the car may still run, but only until your battery is depleted. Find a good indy, the dealer is certainly ripping you off. I believe regulator is around $60 and even a full reman alternator is around $200-300 and shouldn't be that time-consuming to replace.

So now car is back by the dealer. i can not drive it. i was thinking let them replace both battery's (the one in the trunk is not a mb battery) and then drive the car to another shop to fix it. was talking to oraily and ordered the alternator and the belt, but there don't have the regulator.
next thing is my break fluid are black, so i need to change that. i'm for sure don't let it done from the dealer. i talk to my shop there take care of my other cars and he is really good, but he don't normal works on mercedes.
thx for your help. i hope i can enjoy my car after this is done.

ok i got one from orailly for $159 (normal it was more, but there are match the price from autozone). also i got a new belt.
got the benz to another shop and he told me max. is $140 to put it in. but if he get it faster out/in he just charge me less.
i bring all my cars to him, always pay a little less then he tells me. i like it this way.
he normal works not on mercedes.
maybe i need to get used to doing some work on the mercedes my self. on the mustang and my el camino i do some work my self.
