SL/R230: WTB: 2009 SL63 Muffler & Rear Diffuser
I have a CPO 2009 SL550 black with black interior that I just traded in my 08 CLS550 for 3weeks ago and the only thing I did so far was took to a local tint shop and had them wrap my ugly wood interior with black gloss 3M for a "Piano wood" look which came out really good. Going in next weekend to have them put on the rear spoiler/lip and a WheelSkin black leather steering wheel cover over the wood...
Other than that I just want a tad bit of rumble to the SL550 so I thought best to stay with a stock SL63 muffler would be the best route to add a tad bit of sound to it. Not looking to increase horse power or wake up my neighbors or spend a lot of dough on this project so looking for a used in good quality (no rust) muffler, tips and diffuser since I understand I have to change that in order to get the dual tips to fit w/o modification.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated. I haven't taken any pics of my car yet but here is a pic the dealer took when selling the car. I will take my own once these items are all done.
Please keep us posted on this...I have a 2009 as well and was looking to do the same thing...I am very interested in how this turns out.
BTW, when they did the 3M wrap, did they cover the wood on your steering wheel? I was going to go with the carbon interior listed in this forum, but the wood on the steering wheel is the only thing stopping me...I would be interested in seeing your interior photos as well...
Thanks
Wes
I have been trying to look for a deal to hopefully get the SL63 exhaust and diffuser together. I believe I have read that the 63 diffuser will bolt onto the 550 bumber without modifications but I'm not 100% on that... Do you by any chance know??
If not I will just switch the muffler with mine and keep my stock tips on there but I really like the 2013 dual tips or the original 63 dual tips.
As for the 3M interior wrap I basically had the doors, center console and shifter (was tricky) done for $300 total. Took them a few hours but they essentially took door panels off and center console and then wiped down wood trim and put the self adhesive 3M gloss black wrap on it and used a heat gun on corners, etc... I honestly don't think they have ever done that sort of job before but considering that it came out pretty good, I think.... I sometimes wonder if I should have done the carbon fiber wrap, would have been same price but I opted for a more "conservative" look for resale as I usually sell my cars every year and half or so.
As for the steering wheel I didn't want to drop the cash and or mess with air bag stuff of getting new wheel so I bought a WheelSkin leather steering wheel lace on cover for $55 on eBay and they threw it on for me while I had the spoiler put on. Not sure how others feel about the look of the leather so would be curious to get opinions on it.
Here are some before and after photos
