SL/R230: A/C Vent Question

Quick and important A/C Vent Question
I have a 2009 SL550 and was playing around with the A/C today (no kidding, I live in FL) and found out that I cannot shut the air off from the drivers middle vent. I tried closing the dial, switching modes…nothing, air is always blowing out of the drivers middle vent.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is this a design feature? Is there a "trick" to reset the ability to close the vent (I found out that there is a window reset procedure when your rear windows don't go up)?
The car is still under warranty, so if I need to take it in I can, it is just a pain as I drive it every day…

Could someone please tell me if they can shut off the driver's side center vent in a 2009 SL?
The one I am talking about is the left most one over the radio…controlled (supposedly by the center thumbwheel).
I just want to know if this is normal before they start taking my dash apart...
