Battery

Does anyone have a reccomendation on a real good battery for my 2008 SL convenience battery? Just bought a OEM one at the dealer last year and dead already. Anyone have a better battery that will last longer? I heard the Optima's were good. Any feed back would be appreciated.
Thank you!

My humble opinion, you can't beat Varta Batteries.

Brings you to a United Kingdom Site, also no where to order one. Thank for your help though. Still can find a site where to order one.

I thought the OEM batteries that Mercedes sells are actually Varta batteries. I am pretty sure my recent replacement batteries from Mercedes said Varta on them. Both the front and the rear battery.

Maybe check the voltage regulator on the alternator. It may not be charging the battery.

I thought the best batteries were supposed to be the MB OEM ones? My original factory battery lasted 9.5 years. Can't beat the $175 replacement cost at the dealer either.

They are Varta [oem], cheaper if you buy Varta instead of the MB [Varta].

IIRC, the electrolyte is contained in a glass mat in the "convenience" battery. I'd be careful about putting a standard wet battery back there, but an Optima (if there's a proper fit) would work.

Something is clearly wrong - a new battery should last at least five years. I'd take the car to a dealer (or a good indy) and have the charging circuits checked - it could be the battery isn't getting properly charged when the car is driven. If the car is driven infrequently, you might want to invest in a battery tender.

I would contact the dealer to check on the warranty coverage. Most batteries sold today come with either a 36 or 48 month warranty. If there is nothing wrong mechanically with the car, they should replace. You could also check with mercedes road side assistance. Again, If it is a factory authorized replacement battery from a MB dealer they should come to your location to replace free of charge. Hope you find a speedy resolution.
