DVD update for navigation
I have 2006 SL500 with the original navigation DVD in it. I know there is a newer version out there, but my question is does the new DVD have newer software too or just maps/poi? The reason I ask is that the software on my version is really bad, much worse than the Garmin or TomTom units available in 2006. You can't enter a house number only the street, this makes for poor directions on a street that spans many blocks.
If the software is updated along with the maps, is there a significant improvement?

Something does not sound right. I can enter the house number in the Nav in my 2005 SL. It brings up that option after the street name is entered. The update discs do sometimes include software fixes as well as updated Nav files. These updates fix software bugs, they do not change on screen functionality. I currently have a January 2013 disc in my system. I got it by buying one listed for a 2007 E63. The systems are the same, for some reason MB stopped listing the older SL's in the updates.

Thanks. Mine allows you to enter a house number but it does nothing with it. I have the 2005.2 disk in the car. I just ordered the one you recommended off eBay. I hope it makes it better.
Thanks

I hope that fixes the issues. In mine, when I select house number, it lets me put in an address with the keypad, say 1000. Then a screen with block choices appears, such as 800 to 1200 and 801 to 1201. I then select the 800 to 1200 choice and then select start route.
Some posters in this forum have reported problems trying to load an update disc if too many interim updates were skipped. I skipped three consecutive years and had no problem. Those who had problems needed to have the dealer do a system update with STAR to get the new disc to load.
