MB sl vs BMW z4

I know the z4 is often compared to the slk but for me its the sl is the best MB convertible (other than the sls

Which is better:
Pre 2009 z4 (because i like the styling better) or 2009 .sl600
I believe the z4 is 1600 kg vs 2000kg sl / 250 hp vs 500 hp !
Top speed is roughly the same 250 km/hour

How can the V6 z4 be almost as fast as the fastest non amg V12 mercedes
Which is the better buy to keep for lets say 10 years ?

Also what is your opinion on red leather interiors

If you like the Z4 better, get one. If you put the two cars right next to each other, I wouldn't even see the Z4. I think it is rather unattractive with very poor lines.

Top speed is the same because the CL600 is electronically limited. Get an ECU tune to over 600 hp and have the limiter removed. You can bump the top speed to over 200 MPH.

The Z4 will be more reliable than the SL since it is much less complex. Operating costs will be significantly less on the Z4 over the long haul. With that said, I would take the SL every time over a Z4. The only comparison is they are both convertables. It's like comparing Rosie O'Donnell to Alessandra Ambrosio. Yes, they are both female but that's about the end of the comparison.

I despise red leather interiors. If you like them, go for it.

I had a Z4. Kept it only for three months. half of this time at the dealer service dept.
A real PIA vehicle in every way; Engineering mediocrity, lacking space and comfort especially for drivers over 5.7, feminine image and an acquired taste styling.
I bought it simply because the deal was so irresistible.
Comparing the Z4 to the R230 is demeaning to the later in all aspect.

Nice advice to trust your own intuition.
I like both but love the sl V12 engine better, but the weight it's so heavy

I think i should drive both or t least spend some time really looking at each car and by really looking i mean staring preferably with an cold beer or two

I love the red leather (w/ black exterior)and even more so the orange bugatti leather
Life is dull without color

Yeah maybe it's a boyhood dream of mine but like you i might come to regret later.
Bmw makes good cars but if good is mediocre then maybe the sl is the safe bet
