electronic fuse?

Hey guys,

I was looking to see what fuse is used for the footwell lamps. On the fuse chart I have it says electronic fuse. Anyone know what that is? Thanks.

These lamps are powered by electronic modules that Mercedes refers to by the acronym SAM. My guess is the SAM outputs for the lamps and other devices have electronic current limiting which protects them from short circuits.

Thanks Rod. Actually, I thought I'd blown one changing the bulbs to LED last night but when I turned the car on this morning, all was good again. I guess it resets somehow. Thanks anyway!

does this mean that there is no actual fuse that i can change?
one of my tail lights was out; i took the light, with socket, from the right side and put it in the left side (that was out); it did not work and when i put it back in the right side it did not work. the parts guy at the local mb dealer said that it may be a fuse. when i checked the chart it said "electronic".

so, does this mean there is no actua fuse i can change. why did the good light go out?

I certainly believe so. I googled "electronic fuse" and quickly found this.

Your profile is incomplete, so I don't know enough about your car to even begin to speculate.
