Purchase Question About 2008 SL600

Hi all, putting the pieces together to make the move from my 2006 E55 to a 2008 SL600 and am curious if anyone can give me some pointers or if there's anything I should know as a prospective buyer? I love my E55 and have only don a cat and resonator delete as well as a EuroCharged ECU tune but have a blast with it and it has always treated me well only ever having to do standard service on it and no additional things. I bought it almost exactly 2 years ago and have just put under 20k miles on it as it is currently at 82k miles.

I have always really liked the SL's and have been in contact with a seller here on a SL65 as well as someone selling a SL600 as the second owner. I'm weighing my options and the SL600, if I can get it for the right price, seems like a no brainer. Below is the link....

Any pointers/tips would be appreciated!

Maintenance for a 600 vs 65 are pretty much the same except for the brake job which the 65 rotors can go for 700-900 a piece but apparently there is one vendor that sells aftermarket brakes for the SL65. Otherwise expect 20+ hr labor job on engine mounts if they haven't been done yet (Only the SL V12s require the engine to be dropped, not the S or CL) ignition coils, the hydraulic ABC issues.

Otherwise the engine is pretty bullet proof. If you can a warranty will save you a lot. I paid 4k for 4 yrs/50k coverage and it already paid out 15k and I still have 2/20k+ miles to go.

As for power a tune SL600 does push out more power then a stock SL65 but if you want to experience the full power then go for an SL65 cause a tuned SL600 maybe a low 11s but a tuned SL65 is a good 10s car with just an ECU. Don't settle for a car if you know you don't want it, and the SL65s are now being priced in the 40s

Depending how you feel about it, you may want to look for the face lifted model that came right after the one in the listing. I would argue it has a nicer front end, especially the grille and xenon headlights. The GPS system was a big upgrade too.

Regards.

2008 SL600
Thanks for the input guys. Coming up on an hour left for the auction to end and the things I liked about this compared to other higher priced vehicles I've found were that this was a 2008 as opposed to the more common 2005-2007, this was on its second owner of 4 years with 9 months remaining on the actual MB warranty, and it is newer than what I've seen. The 2009 would be cool for the facelift, but I won't find one for this price range in 2009, heck I'm lucky I found this at 2008! Anyhow, this auction and how it ends will tell whether or not it'll happen... if I can win and win it right, then I'll jump.
