SL/R230: Roof Vibration / Rattles

Roof Vibration / Rattles
Here comes another "help me" thread concerning roof rattles.
Mine has some vibrating/rattle coming from the inside of the roof just behind the drivers seat (uk model) and its driving me nuts. I've been though almost every thread i can find on roof rattles and lubed this and tightened that and still nothing.
The car is a 2005 SL500 if you needed to know.
Ive attached an audio file of the noise, has anyone had this before and if so whats the cure?
Thanks

I've had my roof rattle before but I only notice it during the cold weather. I know the feeling though it can drive you nuts

What happens if you push on the headliner in the area you hear the noise?
My SL had a very annoying roof rattle right behind and to the left of the driver seat. Only on bumpy roads. I isolated it to the headliner by pushing up on it in various locations. In my case, a few of the headliner clips either disengaged or broke, apparently not that uncommon. I just pulled the liner down slightly from the outside edge and stuffed some foam in - no more noise!
Another solution is to only drive with the top down....
