On the R230, does the Comand unit or just the CD Changer need to be pulled to install an mCar?

Looks like that unit is based on the MOST fiber bus. Will only work with MOST-equipped R230, 2005+ model years. 2003 R230s is D2B based, a continuing and major PITA for audio upgrades.

And to answer your question, as it's a MOST unit, it will insert into the MOST fiber optic loop, replacing the CD changer.
