I installed it a couple months ago. I have a 2003 SL55 and so far I'm very happy. There are a few things to look out for when you install but all in all, it's been a great change.
There are places a lot cheaper than your example. I paid less than $600 US and the install was relatively painless. I'm happy to supply details if you need them.

I am very interested in acquiring one of these. I would be pleased if you could provide the details of where you got yours. Swedish prices are higher to start with so if I have to pay tax on it, I'd rather pay it here.
Thank you in advance.

I would like to know where you can purchase one of these also for a 03 sl55. Does it get sirius radio? Bluetooth to a telephone?
Thanks
Thanks

Hi!
I found the unit here.
http://www.cargpsnet.com/mercedes-sl...580-p-525.html
And of course much cheaper than in Sweden.
RoundTheBenz- Is this where you purchased yours?

I got mine here; http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Car-D...928518336.html
It looks like you've found a cheaper source but I did get free shipping and it also included the maps & sd card so in the end, I think mine was cheaper.
One thing I would say is don't get the wireless transmitter for the backup camera. It caused me real headaches with the ABC system from some kind of interference.
theboogers, It does have BT to connect your telephone hands free as well as the ability to stream your favorite music. It also has iPod and USB connections as well as another sd card slot for additional devices & media. What it does not have is voice control.

If you have a smart phone with Bluetooth, it will connect. Perhaps ask them about satellite radio. There may be a module you can add on but I know nothing about that.

UK R230 2002 with BOSE
Hi, I live in the UK and have considered upgrading my command 2.0 with another unit. My question is will this work with the factory BOSE system etc as a plug and play system? Can you still use the steering controls? and are the maps any good - 3D with full address / voice command etc. My command works fine with great sound from the amp and speakers (BOSE) but I have no disc for the sat nav and the dealers want £200. Any info greatly appreciated

On a 2002 it is not plug and play (you'll have to either remove or replace the amp and run speakers to new amp or directly to the unit itself) but you will end up with steering wheel controls, etc. No voice activation and the maps you get free work just fine. You can put whatever maps you want on the SD card if you are not happy with the ones supplied.

RoundTheBenz- Did you replace the OMD amp? If so, what amp did you use?
If not did you notice any lost of boost?

I didn't replace the amp. I just ran it directly into the new head unit that has an internal one. I'm not a real music aficionado so to me it sounds fine. If you are a real music nut, I guess that putting in an amp would make sense but you can try without first.

What do you mean by 'ran it directly into the new head unit that has an internal one'?
Your car has an optical connection from the old COMAND unit to the Bose amp. Did you run the speaker output wires from the new unit directly to the speakers in your car? Thereby bypassing the optical cables and Bose amp?
Also how is the Bluetooth phone with the top down? I am concerned that the microphone may not be in a good location, and will pick up wind noise. Most Parrot and aftermarket systems have a mini microphones that can be mounted near the rearview mirror. Some have two mini microphones and they noise cancel each other (look at the newer Parrot systems)
I can't see any external microphone with this kit. It seems that it may be a tiny hole in the unit itself, with a microphone behind it.. I'm concerned if that's the case, that the microphone will suck. I need to be talking while driving, not just at traffic lights. I realize highway driving won't be very good in any type of convertible + phone situation, but can I make calls in the city with people hearing me OK?

Do you guys have to cut the wood trim in your cars to install these Chinese units?
1. Older SL's like my 2003 have a ring of wood that goes all around the radio. So the radio basically installs in a 'hole' in the wood.
2. Newer SL's have no wood any higher than the cupholders. All of the space above the cupholders is radio and nothing else.
These Chinese units seem to all be #2 above. Which means I'll have to cut off the 'ring of wood' from the top of my console to be able to install.
For anyone who installed in an older SL (2003 and maybe 2004) did it install in the 'hole' as with #1 above, or did you have to cut the wood because the unit only fits style #2 above?
