I am hoping someone can help me with this problem. It's a gorgeous mars red 2005 mercedes s600 with the twin turbo V12 engine. Car has lots of power when it's cold. Here is what I and my mechanic noticed:

- starts up in the morning great. 100% power, everything is great. Let it idle for half hour, engine shuts off on it own.
- if you restart it, it again runs fine, but it will shut off after a while if you let it sit at idle.

The car has just over 100k miles and when I first got it, it had a CEL with a misfire on all cylinders on left bank: 7,8,9,10,11,12. We thought of course that the coil pack needed to be replaced so we bought a brand new one. The new coil pack is causing the same issues. I took it on a test drive after we put in the new the coil pack and it was BLAZING fast. For a couple of miles! And then it started misfiring and struggling to do 60mph!

We are really miffed on why the engine shuts off on its own too...

Anybody my 04 SL600 V12 has a similar problem, it started after gas fill up, now has just enough power to get to 75mph but it's very weak & misfiring

I have also problems with the engine.
After I install a tune the engine light have flash al the time.
Really don't now what the problem is.
Last time I let the engine idle run and after 1/2 hour it's shut down the whole right cylinder bank. I read the fault codes and it told me to change the ignition module. I bought this expensive module and change it. Start the engine and after few seconds the right cylinder bank shut down again. ( Have not read the fault codes)
Now I have the cold air intake project so I had no time to look it closer again.
For me it's impossible that al the coils 7-12 are gone at the same time.
So any idea what the problem is?

Ekselent yours sounds like coils, the others sound like the ignition module. Both are troublesome on these cars

Strange I got no codes, no check engine lights, stop misfiring, so would the ignition module give me codes or lights ???

I had same problem with my CLK it would randomly shut off, I would have to turn key to off and restart car. I bought a SL.

But I did not get codes with SDS, I really believe it was the Ignition Switch.
