Dropped my fob in the ocean!

How can Mercedes charge $475 for a new key/fob????
I dried it, removed the batteries and now the light will flash when I hold lock and unlock but wont unlock or lock the doors. Any ideas or where to find a cheaper replacement, the car still starts but I need to use the physical key to get lock and unlock. I'm sure its been discussed before but I can't seem to find any specifics. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Its a 07 SL550
Thanks!

I've been lucky, twice.

My key fob was left in my shorts pocket and ended up going through two full auto washing machine cycles on separate occasions.

Both times I pulled it apart and dried it with a hair dryer and couldn't believe my luck when it still worked.

How did you dry it? A hair dryer might not be enough. Drop it in a zip lock bag full of uncooked rice. Leave it there for a day our two. Tossing it in the bag every few hours. Then take it out and blow it out good with an air compressor. If that doesn't fix it, then your choice is to go without the auto-lock function, or replace it at $475.

Place it in a jar full of uncooked rice and give it a few days.
