Coolant Recovery Tank removal.

Hi, while changing my water pump, I must have lent on the two small hoses that connect to the Recovery tank and snapped the quick fit / push in connectors. On further inspection of the tank found the plastic around the spring lock on these hose fittings disintegrated, probably the Dubai hot summers. So now I need a new tank and hoses with push in connectors. I found the tank at Euro Tech but need to see if they have hoses and connectors. Question: How do you remove the Recovery tank, I removed one bolt from the top but I'm afraid to pull on it any more and its not moving out?? Appreciate any help please. Regards, Greg

You need to remove the RH wheel and then you can detach the rear half of the plastic fender liner. Then you will have full access to the tank and pumps and hoses. Good Luck. It's not a bad job.

Your problem seems similar to what I had on my 2007 XK in Texas. I noticed a small drip coming from the expansion tank and tried to remove the lower hose from it. With hardly enough pressure to release the upper clamp on the lower hose........the lower nipple on the Plastic expansion tank gave way. While the plastic tank looked just fine when viewing it, the lower nipple was in a 'crumble cake' state. Plastic and 'recovery tanks' don't do the job imho. Should have been made of metal in the first place.

I lucked out in that I had just come from a 2K mile trip. If it had given out in the middle of nowhere.............it would have been a sad, sad situation.

Just a FYI response and not of much use to the original poster. Except to say it's not just a Mercedes 'problem'.

I just realized I gave you some bad information--I was thinking of the windshield washer reservoir.--SORRY

Hi Next2pool, no problem, I wondered which pump you were referring to. Hopefully someone will have a solution for me. Cheers Greg
