SL/R230: Hardtop close issue

Hardtop close issue
So the top works okay on opening, but I have to manually help the "hardtop cover extension" (item 3 in the diagram below) to close enough that it will pass the window and allow it and the roof to complete it's travel to close.
It seems to not be flat when the roof is closed and when it is open there is a noticeable gap between the trunk and the seal on the extension. From the limited info I have found it seems to be cable driven but I am not sure whst is moving it and where to look to be sure the cable is being moved to affect the change required.
All help would be awesome as 1) it is a hassle to close and 2) seems to be rubbing on the roof when it is stowed making a rub line on the roof...
