2004 SL500
I am installing the satellite radio module in a 2004 SL500. I am vague about where the antenna is actually being installed but have been assured that nothing is visible according to the dealer. I will post tonight how it turns out.

My dealer blew it
Sorry to get everyone so excited. My dealer misread the instructions for the satellite radio installation. A black receiver, roughly 4 X 3 inches, needed to be installed on the rear trunk lid to receive a signal. Since the rear deck is aluminum, I wondered if the signal could have passed through this if the receiver had been installed facing inside the trunk lid, but the dealer was unwilling to do this since Mercedes said otherwise.
Of course, the receiver could be painted to match the car, but I thought it would still be ugly, so I passed and I still don't have satellite radio in my SL500.

check into another dealership. there must be one that is willing to experiment and help you out.
my satellite installation:
The antenna is hidden under the rear deck where the red circle is.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Shoes, my friend, we are utterly screwed! I just pulled my SL out of the garage on this beautiful sunny morning and watched carefully as I operated the convertible top. T-bone: the deck lid moves. It lifts up and the top slides past the bottom of the lid with very little clearance. Watching the mechanism operate, and allowing for the fact that a satellite signal wouldn’t penetrate metal, I don’t see much alternative to the ugly through-the-trunk-lid installation. Perhaps if the satellite antenna could be integrated with the GPS antenna, but I don’t see how that could be done in the aftermarket.
Ugh! I’ve wanted commercial-free satellite radio ever since I attended an AMG Challenge event last summer where Sirius had a kiosk and representatives promising their product would be available for 04. I still want it, but I don’t think I want to drill holes through the car’s beautiful designo silver paint. Mercedes disappoints again ...

We better start complaining to Mercedes
We should let our friends at Mercedes know that the customers shouldn't be the ones to figure out solutions to issues like where to mount a satellite antenna that is appropriate for a $100K automobile.
Why doesn't Mercedes just buy a Honda Accord and reverse engineer their satellite antenna?
Waiting all these months for their solution, only to be let down by them wanting to put an incredibly ugly lump of plastic on the top of the trunk lid of my incredibly beautiful car.
