SL/R230: Brilliant Silver being phased out?
Brilliant Silver being phased out?
Interestingly for the new 2005 SLK brilliant silver is being replaced by iridium silver (the German name) with a completely different paint code. Perhaps this will apply across all the model lines?

MercedesFan...you seem to thrive on rumors...
Haven't heard anything about Brilliant Silver coming or going...while it's a popular color, it can't last forever.
But MB doesn't have one paint swatch for all cars. Each car has different offerings, interior, exterior, woods etc. Just because B-Silver may not be offered on the new SLK doesn't mean that it's gone for all models.
Great example is Java interior. While no longer available on the E...it is still made and produced on the C, M and S.

It is not a rumor that the new SLK has replaced brilliant silver with a new color iridium silver. My guess is that this new silver is close enough to brilliant silver that to have both would be duplicative. If it is in fact a new and improved silver then there would not be any reason not to make the same switch in other models. By the way, iridium is described as an element similar to platinum so maybe the US name for it will end up as platinum silver? (Now that is a rumor.)
Actually, getting advance notice of changes is one of the big pluses in following these boards. Sometimes early information is erroneous information but as long as everyone recognizes this fact it is fun, interesting, and sometimes even financially rewarding to know ahead what is likely to occur before it can be officially announced.
