Dear R230 experts:

Due to some monsterous potholes here in La Jolla, CA I had to put some new wheels on my 2005 SL55 last week.

Other than the damaged rims, the car runs perfectly (at 50,000 miles), and all services are done on schedule. So far so good.

However . . . while a front wheel was off I noticed the jacket over the coil spring is torn and frayed (photo). The rubber is so thin, it's like an engineering afterthought. The car sees no rain or snow or dirty roads so is this a minor issue, or is it the beginning of the end for my adjustable suspension?
