Does anyone know where the starter motor is located on a 2004 SL55?
I need to change it (hopefully that does the trick). Car started fine, went to the gas station and turned it off to fill up. Then I went to start it and it just clicked. Had it towed to my garage. Now the suspension has failed and the wheels are in the well and it can't be towed.
I had my mechanic come by and hook up the diagnostic and he said all electrical systems are good, he sees the command to start the car and the signal for crank but there's something mechanical holding it out.
So I have to find a way to jack her up and get the starter replaced. My mechanic can't work in my garage due to insurance restrictions. Can anyone help?
Thanks!

See attached WIS instructions. Don't know why your suspension has failed?? It has nothing to do with the starter. Perhaps tow guy screwed something up??
Make sure that your starter battery ie, the one under the hood (bonnet) is charged up and has not failed.
Good luck,
Bob

Thanks so much for the instructions! As feared, it's going to be a little tough for one guy. The hydraulic suspension has failed probably because it's been sitting in my garage for a while, I hear that's not good for these rides. Probably the o rings on the blocks, but I don't see any fluid on the ground. Hopefully it's not the main pump! Either way, I can't get a standard jack under it, three towing companies ran away from it and mechanics won't work off site. Looks like I'm going to need some type of a balloon to inflate under her to get her off the ground enough to put jackstands in place. Ugh.

Harbor Freight has a low profile floor jack that might be able to go under the rubber jacking points on your frame for changing tires. See here. This can get in under 3". You would only need to get the front of the car up to access the center jacking point on the cross member to put it on jack stands to do the starter. For our model, you do not have to remove the motor mount to get to the starter. I know all this is tedious but what other choice do you have?
In some areas, there are roaming "Mobile Mechanics" that will come to your job site to work on your car. I know that they are big in Florida where my son lives and probably other areas as well. Mobile mechanics are big in the trucking industry for roadside breakdown repairs on the big rigs.
Where there's a will there's a way.
Good luck,
Bob
