SL/R230: As expected - Flat Battery...
Back from our winter recess in New Zealand and California.
The BMW started first time. The Ford Focus started first time. The Mercedes-Benz wouldn't even unlock!
Mobilo got it going - spent 10 minutes or more resetting the electrics and all seems well. Shouldn't be like this tho.
Drove my latest favourite car in California - an Infiniti FX45.
An absolutely brilliant car (or crossover) - why can't we get this thing in Europe! Looks great, especially the exterior, but the electronics - from standard drop down DVD screens to rear colour camera, a foolproof and ingenious touch screen GPS system - leaves MB's COMAND looking like a 70's pacman game! And the acceleration and ride - simply bloody amazing...
Cruised California in a 2004 Mustang Convertible - a likeable car if a little wheezy and arthritic.
Drove a 1994 Nissan Cefiro in New Zealand which was also a totally capable car - especially its ride and comfort qualities. The Japs were doing 10 years ago what MB & BMW seem just to be achieving. Remarkable.
Back now to decide on what to get - a DB9 is top of my shopping list (after a RHD Infiniti) but might look at the 645i after a good review in Car & Driver.
Glad to back to cold and wet Blighty (not) - but did notice how improved our motorway surfaces are getting. American highways were in an appalling condition!
The whole basin in Auckland is a go - great restaurants, great boating, bit crowded with a lot of foreign visitors but the Viaduct Basin will be the new global place-to-be in a few years time.
saw the DB9 LHD recently on demo. the car itself looks awesome, especially the special door function ie partially gullwing and variable in its motion. you move the door, stop and it stays in the exact position.
however the interior was abit of a shocker. the leather seats looked tired already and the mid line console - no sat nav etc. finally the rep said Aston Martin do not mass produce cars, quoted MB makes over 1 000 000 cars a year, and AM makes 15 000. To mean is translated to if anything goes wrong , parts may be difficult to get quickly. May be different if you r in UK !
Enjoy shopping
