Unknown part, someone may know what it does, pics

I just finished reinstalling the Vario Roof front lock cylinder, that was serviced by Top Hydraulics.

When I was running the hoses back to the hydraulic pump, I noticed that the part on the pictures had a broken plastic tang. I really don't know what it does. It does not seem to affect the operation of the Vario roof, since after reinstalling the front lock cylinder, the roof seems to function normally.

Can someone chime in what this part may be and what it does? It is on the driver side, next to all the hydraulic roof related hoses. The broken part is plastic, and attaches to the metal tang above the rod.

You may struggle to find that part at a dealer, as they want to replace assemblies, not minor items. I could not buy clips for upholstery, as they only sold the panels. eBay might have one if you can find it available.

I've had the good fortune of not having to dig deeper than replacing the top pump (another satisfied Top Hydraulics customer

so, it is not entirely clear to me where this broken part is on your car (near pump in trunk? near hinge assy? near trunk release?)

there are not so many bowden cables that it should be so difficult to find this part ... so I looked breifly in the EPC, but failed to hone in on the area where it might exist.

relative to your mentioning that its failure does not appear to inhibit the operation of the top ... it makes me wonder if this part provides some sort of a back-up or lock-out function.

here are a few mercedes parts diagrams for some parts of the varoroof ... can you point to the area where you found this broken part?

VIN might be useful too.

Cheers,

It turned out that this cable controls the last small flap that covers the space between the trunk and the bigger flap. Since it was unhinged, that small flap was not opening and there was a void space between the trunk and the rest of the flaps.

I ended up bolting it with a short bolt to the metal tang and now the flap works as it should.
