Beautiful but hard to keep clean

I have had stone interior on two of my SL's and it is very beautiful and a challenge to keep clean. Mostly I find that where I tend to rest my arms, it needs to be cleaned with a leather cleaner once a week. The first thing I would do is throw out the factory floor mats- they are also stone and will be dirty by the time you drive home from the dealership. Order something in a contrasting darker tone to match the dash fom someplace like mats.com.

Both people I know with MB stone interior said they think it's really nice looking when it's clean but it is very difficult to keep clean and wish they had not ordered stone in the first place.

RR has a similar very light color and it was really nice but such a pain to keep clean, even if being really careful, that is simply just wasn't worth it.

If you are fastidious you can keep it clean but it takes extra preventative measures too. One big help is clear plastic mats over the stone ones, this lets the stone color show through and I throw them out every 2 months and put in new clear ones, they sell for aboput 12 bucks. The other thing is protecting the car when it goes in for service, i put extra plastic on the seats, masking tape the kick panels and have the service writter write on the order to keep the car clean. MB should have used a darker color in the kick panel area ala Jaguar. If you happen to get shoe scuffs on the kick panels use a little rubbing alcohol it works very well. I've got black and stone and it looks IMHO very very nice.

Does having the top down have any effect on the keeping the interior clean? I would think that all of the road dirt would get sucked into the interior when the top is down.
