An SL 20" question? 245/35s w/ 295/30s???
All,
I've read dozens of posts with that suggest the R230 can handle 245/35zr20 fronts and 295/30zr OR 25/30zr20 rears and I want to get the most up to date advice b4 I invest in a new set of tires.
I just bought and refurbished the Carlsson 1/11 BE wheels from 2005 w/ Front=20x9+ET40 and Rear=20x10.5+ET45.
Carlsson's official recommendation on the tires and spacers continues to be Front=255/30/20+ET24 via 16mm spacer and Rear=305/25/20+ET35 via 10mm spacer.
I really like the look of the Front=245/35/20 and Rear=295/30/20. My 2003 SL500 (AMG body) has been lowered a bit by the previous owner.
So, the question, regardless of whether I have to raise or lower again, can I buy and ride with the 245/35s and 295/30s without causing problems (rubbing, esp, etc.)??

Please tell me, if you know...
1) What is the lowest offset I can use on the front setup of 245/35/20x9? (+25 or +20 or +18???)
2) What is the lowest offset I can use on the rear setup of 295/30/20x10.5? (+30 or +28 or +25????)

See here, in attached, i found a while ago a list of all the sizes that MB considers standard to fit for the R230 model. But you definitelly can go outside of the list, with more research and try on. That would be the only way i can think of - put the wheels on and check.
Usually the offset for R230 should be within +10 to +20, but, as you will see on the pic in that topic, there is a variety of offsets, depending on the size of tire itself.
See attached, if won't open there.

Those are standard sizes that fit any r230. The spacers are needed when the offset is out of the standard range for the selected car model. The spacers don't really affect the size you want, it's more of an adjustment for the suspension. But there are people here on the forum who have a bigger offset than recommended and still drive just fine
