SL/R230: Delimiting

Just a question,
The 03-04 SL55's have about 493 hp and 513 lb-ft of torque. I've looked around and read that people have "delimited" their engine and are able to achieve 550 horses as well as torque.
Can someone explain how this works, possibly with a ECU tune or something?
Unless I'm not understanding something.

You will need headers.and a tune or larger pulley and tune to achieve those numbers. On the other hand, an ECU tune on a 2003.and later 600 can net you 625 hp.

I've done both a tune and a SC pulley. The pulley gives immediate results, and probably the best bang for the buck (~$400).
ECU Tune actually hurt the drive-ability a touch, and HP gains were subjective.
Your limiting factor actually becomes rear wheel traction, and once you spin the tires it's a waste of effort.
The other limit is speed (155) on the computer, and you need the developer kit and SDS to remove that. Couple of button clicks and it's done.
