SL/R230: Poor radio signal

Poor radio signal
Good evening,
I have only recently joined this forum since buying my 2003 SL350 a couple of weeks ago.
It is a lovely car, 55,000 miles with full MBSH and in fantastic condition with everything working as it should with the exception of the radio.
Even listening to a strong radio signal such as Radio 2, there is a constant "fuzz" and the signal is poor, it`s the same even if I tune to my local (20 miles away) station. It`s as if the aerial is not connected.
Does anyone have any ideas / If not, how do I get the stereo out to check if the aerial is still connected ?

It's as if the aerial is not connected.
That's the kinda reception I get on my AM radio. FM works fine. Just no AM ... not that I ever listen to AM. But still ... it's an MB. Radio oughta work.
